Cameroon Soccer Player Samuel Eto’o Elected President Of National Federation.
Samuel Eto’o the International footballer is the newly elected president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
Samuel Eto’o is a former Cameroon point man in soccer who before his retirement broke several records both locally and international levels.
The great footballer was elected on Saturday to be the president of the national football federation, a month before the country hosts the African Cup of Nations.
Eto’o is the former Cameroon striker. He also played for Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea. After his appointment, he will take over the position and he is expected to streamline the organisation’s long tainted by infighting, mismanagement and allegations of corruption.
FIFA, the global soccer governing body has intervened not once to end the perennial squabbles among FECAFOOT officials.
Samuel Eto’o (40) in the election led with 43 votes while his rival who is the current president Seydou Mbombouo Njoya took position two with 31 votes.
The election was held after the Court of Arbitration for Sport in January declared the victory of Njoya victory in a 2018 election null and void.
Cameroon will host the African Cup of Nations next year between January 9th and February 6th.
The great Eto’o before his retirement from football achieved a lot in the world of football. He participated in four World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations leading the Cameroon team in the attack.
He is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations scoring 18 goals, and is Cameroon’s all-time leading scorer and third most capped player, with 56 goals in 118 caps.
