Dead body used in prison break by a rapist who had been sentenced to jail term in south Africa. The father of a man whose body was used by a notorious rapist to escape from prison has demanded to know how it happened.
The rapist managed to break out of prison after faking his own death by setting fire to his cell. A body was found inside and was believed to be his but it was later identified as belonging to a different person. The father of the deceased wants, “the truth and nothing but the truth”.
According to him the police informed him of his son’s dead in a hospital in the city of Bloemfontein.
“How did the rapist got hold of the body in a government mortuary,” he asked in an interview with the ENCA adding that he would sue the state.
After the body Alleged to belong to the rapist was re-examined last month after suspicions were raised by local media, it was found that the person had died as a result of blunt-force trauma to the head. The dead body (was) used in prison break by the rapist.
The father of the deceased says his son disappeared last year April and he does not believe the explanation of what had happened to his son.
The police declined to comment on his statement.
According to the family, they went to Bloemfontein’s mortuaries looking for him but they did not find any trace of him. There were no news about him until his mother was asked to carry out a DNA test last week.
The family has therefore not seen his body yet. The mother, Monica Matsie, broke down during an interview with national broadcaster SABC.
During the chaos caused by the fire in the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein, rapist Bester was able to run away from prison dressed as a warder.
Bester had been serving a life sentence after being convicted 10 years ago for the rape and murder of his girlfriend Nomfundo Tyhulu among other charges of rape and robbery.
After his escape he kept a low profile for a year before he was re- arrested this month in Tanzania along with his girlfriend, celebrity doctor Nandipha Magudumana.
The girlfriend, her father and 2 employees of the British security firm G4S which guard the prison have been arrested for allegedly helping him escape.
