Deadline for Universities to Reveal Cost of Courses
Following the new policy directive on payment of fees, Universities have until next week Tuesday to declare the cost of each degree program for 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates.
Chief Executive Officer for The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service Dr. Mary Wahome has instructed Vice Chancellors and Principals of Constituent University Colleges to comply with the directive issued by President his Excellency Dr. William Ruto.
Mary Wahome said the Directive is in line with the KUCCPSKUCCPS mandate in Section 56 1(b) (Universities Act, 2012), where KUCCPS is required to disseminate information on available programs, their costs, and the areas of study prioritized by the Government.
President Ruto who unveiled a new university funding model on Wednesday this week asked the universities to make public and provide information on the cost of their academic programs to KUCCPS. Deadline for Universities to Reveal Cost of Courses
Wahome further reiterated that the government would only provide scholarships to students who select degree programs in public universities.
Any Student who wish to join a private institution will be allowed to select programs in such universities and TVETTVET institutions but will not get Government scholarships and will only be eligible to apply for HELB loans.
In the new funding model, President William Ruto said students would be divided into three categories including the Vulnerable, the Less Vulnerable, and the Able, and will receive funding according to the categories.
The funds will be channeled through government scholarships and HELB loans.
He said students from less needy families will receive up to fifty three percent and loans of up to forty three percent. Seven percent will be contributed by their household.
On the other hand, able students will be funded up to thirty eight percent and fifty eight percent in the form of loans. Their household will pay seven percent.
