Details of Raila’s Meeting With President Ruto
Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, has shared information on his July 29 meeting in private with President William Ruto and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Although Raila earlier acknowledged having a private meeting with Ruto when Obasanjo was there, she has never made clear what was said.
But in an interview with KTN News on October 4, Raila claimed that Obasanjo had mediated the meeting, which had taken place on the evening of July 29 in Mombasa at an undisclosed location.
In a statement, Raila said that the former president of Nigeria sat in the middle of the discussion, where it was decided how to approach the meeting’s main concerns.
There were only three of us there. Obasanjo, Ruto, and I were present. I was in this room with Ruto and Obasanjo, who was seated in the center. In the interview, Raila stated that everything happened somewhere rather than in the state house.

However, the head of the opposition refused to say what Obasanjo told Ruto in their face-to-face encounter.
Before deciding to end the anti-government protests, Raila said they discussed a number of concerns with Ruto, with the high cost of living being a prominent one.
“The cost of living is the most important concern. Thirdly, we wanted the issue around the strengthening of multiparty democracy and other constitutional modifications to be discussed, Raila said. We also wanted the subject of electoral equity to be on the table.
Raila’s Azimio acknowledged that the opposition leader held a meeting with Ruto and that it was presided over by Obasanjo in a statement issued on Sunday, July 30 in the afternoon.
“The purpose of this first meeting was to provide the groundwork for open dialogue on the topics we have been bringing up and those that Kenya Kwanza feels like bringing up. Therefore, the meeting was a discussion of planned discussions,'” former Meru Governor Peter Munya remarked at the news conference.
On July 30, President Ruto disclosed that he had seen the Opposition leader and that they had agreed on peace during an interdenominational church service in Ukunda, Kwale County.
