Don’t Victimize Teachers Via Legal System – COTU To TSC
The Teachers Service Commission has been urged by the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) to cease utilizing legal system and intimidation against striking teachers.
Instead, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli advised TSC and the striking Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) to use dialogue to reach at a mutually agreeable return-to-work formula to end the strike.
According to Atwoli, COTU will help educators in all of their endeavors and is pleading with TSC to put an end to intimidation and threats.

“Since teachers are the reason TSC exists, it is imperative that it always attend to their needs and serve as a liaison between them and the government. We will discard it if TSC doesn’t take such action,” Atwoli declared.
According to Atwoli, a return to work formula needs to exist in order for our tutors to return to work. Therefore, TSC needs to call a conference with teachers as soon as possible, as agreed upon by our Labor Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua and myself.
TSC should respond quickly because teachers are prepared to report to work even tomorrow, as confirmed by Education Minister Julius Migosi’s letter, which acknowledged that the government has already complied with part of the teachers’ demands.
Teachers are prepared for negotiations, according to Atwoli, but TSC has been urging them to return to work because of the court decision.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa mirrored his views when he suggested that the TSC and the protesting teachers need to have a conversation as soon as possible.
“The supremacy battle between the Teachers Service Commission and the teachers is not just a power struggle; it is an issue that affects our children’s future,” said Barasa.
Barasa stated that those who are getting ready for the national examinations will suffer the most, but he nevertheless urged the TSC to make a fair offer that can open the door for talks and put an end to the strike.
