ECDE Teachers Hold Demonstration Raising a Major Concern
Several Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers have gone ahead to hold a peaceful demonstration to demand for employment on pensionable and permanent terms.
While speaking to the press after the demonstration, the teachers asked the new county boss (Governor) to offer them with permanent and pensionable jobs.
According to the teachers, former governor Hon Jackson Mandago failed to fulfill his promises to change their terms of service to permanent and pensionable.
Surprisingly, Truphena Chirchir revealed that the county portal indicates they were confirmed for permanent terms in July yet the new administration is asking them to sign another three months contract.
“ County portal indicates that our terms of service were changed on July this year to P and P, why then are asked to sign another three-months contract? We have been subjected to enough torture under contracts. We want permanent and pensionable terms”, Chirchir said
A teacher at Kaplasu Primary School (Caroline Langat) asked the new governor to fasten the process of employing them on permanent terms.
“It is frustrating and demoralizing to be paid the same amount of money ten years down the line,” she added.
Loise Kirwa on the other hand pointed out that their salaries have not been reviewed despite having acquired degrees and diplomas.
“We are all paid Ksh 10,000 per month yet our salaries should be reviewed to match our qualifications,” she said.
The ECDE teachers are dissatisfied with the way the Uasin Gishu county is dealing with the issues related to teachers in the county
