Fire raze down a school dormitory destroying property
Police in Kisii have launched investigations into the cause of a fire that gutted down a dormitory at Nyakoiba Mixed Secondary School on Friday.
According to the area county commissioner Tom Anjere, the 5am inferno led to the loss of property worth over Ksh.10 million belonging to students.
The multi-agency team has called on the school management and stakeholders across the county to prioritise investing in fire extinguishers to avert such huge losses.

The unfortunate fire broke out when students were out for their morning preps, no injuries were reported.
Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed when fire gutted a dormitory at the school but lucky enough no fatalities or injuries reported save for the loss of property.

The fire, whose cause is yet to be established, started on Friday.
Locals helped to put out the fire before the fire engine operators arrived at the scene.
Kisii county commissioner Tom Anjere raised concerns about the rising cases of fires and called for collaboration with the county government to curb the incidents.
“There is need for fire hydrants in every sub-county as well as fire engines,” he said.
Anjere also called for training of boarding masters and teachers on how to respond to fires.
I a different story, Police in the Mbooni, Makueni county, are investigating a case in which a man suffered serious injuries after his house was razed on Friday night in Miau village.
Kieti Kivindyo, 42, was sleeping when his house caught fire and he lost consciousness.
He was rescued by neighbours and taken to Makueni Referral Hospital.Kivindyo had to be transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for further treatment as doctors in Makueni said he had sustained serious burns.
