Teachers stationed at primary schools who meet the requirements to be promoted to junior secondary schools (JSS) are now sought after by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Nandi Central chapter.
According to Benard Maiyo, the branch executive secretary, Junior Secondary Schools are understaffed even though there is no demand for many skilled instructors in primary schools.

Speaking to the media, he also insisted that more schools follow the recommendations of the Presidential Working Party and be gazetted as JSSs.
Maiyo pleaded with Julius Melly, the chair of the Parliamentary Education Committee, to step in and advocate for the promotions.
The executive secretary for KNUT praised the Teachers Service Commission’s (TSC) promptness in reassigning 17 instructors from Isongo Secondary School in Kakamega, where parents had invaded the building and driven the principal away, saying that the safety of teachers should always come first.
He said that he is thankful to Teacher Service Commission for moving Isongo Secondary School teachers. According to the executive secretary, parents shouldn’t barge into schools and start frog-matching instructors because teachers deserve respect.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Nandi Central branch now wants teachers stationed in primary schools and are qualified to be promoted to Junior Secondary School (JSS).
The branch Executive Secretary Benard Maiyo said that there was no need to have many qualified teachers in primary school and yet JSSs are understaffed.
Speaking while addressing the media personalities, he also demanded that more schools be gazetted as Junior Secondary Schools in line with the Presidential Working Party recommendations.
