Good news as SRC proposes salary increment for Senators, MPs And MCAs
Kenyans to shoulder the burden as SRC proposes salary increment and allowances for senators, members of parliament and members of the county assembly.
In the proposal, the SRC plans to increase salaries for members of parliament by 14% which implies that from the current 621,000/= they will earn 710,000/= per month. The senators as well will receive 710,000 as monthly salary in the new proposal.
The majority and minority leaders will earn 11,248/= more per month, speakers 10,000/= more and deputy speaker 8,000/= more per month in the latest proposal by SRC. With the new changes, the annual wage bill for Parliament will rise from 3.1 billion to 3.58 billion shillings.
The sitting allowances for the lawmakers will also be enhanced as follows in the new proposal. Committee chairs from 8,000/= to 15,000/= for per sitting and for committee members from 5,000 to 7,500 shillings. In a month the allowances for chairpersons will be raised from a maximum of 128,000 shillings currently to 240,000/= and that of members from 80,000 to 120,000 shillings.
County Executive Committee Members were not left behind as SRC proposes that their salary be increased from 259,875/= to 306,250/=, whereas the county assembly speakers will enjoy 404,250/= in the proposal.
County assembly deputy speakers and members of the county assembly have nothing to celebrate as their salary will be trimmed from 216,000/= to 210,000/= respectively in the new proposal.
However, the sitting allowances for MCAs will be increased by nine hundred shillings per session with the maximum amount per month raised 62,400/=.
The county assembly committee chairperson will get 6,500/= as a sitting allowance per meeting with the maximum amount per month increased to 104,000/= from 80,000/=.
For The President, his Deputy, all Cabinet Secretaries, Auditor General, Principal Secretaries, Governors and their Deputies will continue enjoying their current salaries as the SRC proposes that their figures be maintained.
