The national government has plans to fund the county government with Sh 10 million each to enable vocational and technical learning institutions to refurbish and equip them necessary resources.
There is need in the country to equip youths with technical skills required in daily life geared towards achievement of the vision 2030. The move of the national government to allocate surplus funds each county with Sh 10 million is aimed at improving infrastructure and resources in the vocational and technical training college necessary for quality learning and training.
Margaret Mwakima, the Principal Secretary for State Development of Vocational and Technical training institutions noted that Sh 2 billion allocated annually will be utilized by the to establish new and revive existing village polytechnics in all parts of the country. She added that the move will help youths acquire relevant skills necessary in the competitive job market.
Margaret Mwakima urged the administrator in all the counties to give priority in rehabilitation, improving standards and quality assurance of the training institutes. She insisted that the funds should not be diverted to any other purpose.
Additionally, she said that the low enrollment rates in more than 11 polytechnics and national polytechnics established by the government in marginalized areas in Marsabit County is worrying.
Youths across the country should have excuses instead they should enroll in large numbers to acquire the necessary technical skills to enable them earn a leaving and get self-employed.
