Gov’t Increases The Costs of Acquisition Of Important Documents

Birth certificate and Death certificate
The price of the death certificate has increased from Sh50 to Sh200, and the birth certificate’s price has increased from Sh50 to Sh200.
The fees for late birth registration have increased to Sh500 from Sh150, while the fees for late death certificate registration have increased to Sh500 from Sh150.
Re-registering a birth will now set you back Sh1,000, instead of Sh90.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki stated in a gazette notification dated November 8, 2023, that amending both and death certificates will henceforth cost Sh1,000 instead of Sh130.
Kenyans would pay Sh1,500 instead of Sh150 for a certificate of assumed death.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that pursuant to Regulation 60 of the Public Finance Management (National Government) Regulations, 2015, the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning has granted to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration the authority for the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to revise charges and levies on its services,” the notice in the gazette stated.
Cost Of Passports
The government raises the price of passports for all categories.
The government increased the cost of passports in every category.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki said in a gazette notification dated November 7, 2023 that standard passports (34 pages) that were formerly priced at Sh4,500 would now cost Sh7, 500.
Both the ordinary passport (66 pages) and the ordinary passport (50 pages) will now cost Sh9,500 instead of Sh6,000.
The cost of a 50-page diplomatic passport has increased from Sh 7, 500 to Sh 15, 000.
New ID and replacement of lost ID
Kenyans must pay Sh2,000 for a replacement ID and Sh1,000 for a new one.
The initial payment of Sh100 has been increased to Sh2000 for replacing a missing ID.
Kenyans who wish to change their IDs will now have to pay Sh2,000 instead of Sh10,000, as a result of a 20-fold increase in fees from the government.
