Govt to Establish a university in Nyamira in addition to National Polytechnic
Nyamira County has been assured that the government will establish a university in the region, getting the greenlight from none other than the president himself.
Speaking at Uhuru Gardens when he launched the Nyamira County Education Support Fund, Governor Amos Nyaribo said work will begin soon after identifying the land on which it will be built.
He said the president gave the condition that the community must identify a location that is 25 hectares or more.
“I talked to the president who allowed us to start the university after wide consultations,” he said.
Pointing out that Nyamira is the only county in Nyanza without a university, Nyaribo, County Governor, thanked Kisii University for agreeing to start their satellite campus there, which will finally achieve a full-fledged university status.
The governor lauded senior leaders like the Solicitor General Shadrack Mose who agitated for the establishment of a university in the county when he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Kitutu Masaba Constituency.
“We as Nyamira leadership have agreed to embrace team work for a stronger push for the government to provide us with more TVET institutions and other higher learning institutions to cater for the big number of our children who transit from secondary school,” he added.

He lauded the Ministry of Education (MoE) for elevating Ekerubo Gietai Technical Training College to a national polytechnic, which has consequently changed to Nyamira National Polytechnic.
Residents who talked to Education News welcomed the idea because the two institutions will absorb the big number of school leavers owing to the 100 per cent transition policy from primary to secondary school.
