IEBC has identified 3 election violence hotspots in Mombasa
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has identified three areas prone to election-related violence in Mombasa County ahead of Tuesday’s polls.
Speaking to members of the media on Sunday, August 7, Mombasa County Electoral Manager Swalha Yusuf said the commission had identified Kisauni, Nyali and Likoni constituencies as hotspots.
As a result, security has been beefed up in the area to prevent election disruption.
“The above areas have been identified as hotspots and General Service Personnel (GSU) have been deployed in the above areas to ensure that polling is not disrupted,” Yusuf said.
Yusuf said that similar teams have been deployed in all districts to ensure peaceful elections
“However, GSU officers are deployed in different parts of Mombasa, not just in the 3 points, because we want residents to vote unhindered and that is the reason to increase security.”
Yusuf said, she does not think the politicians in the regency will block the election.
“We give priority to vote and leave the The Polling Stations so as not to influence and disturb the voters,” he said.
IEBC distributes election materials to various centers before the election.
