Head of state after principals conning parents
Heads of institutions have been instructed by President William Ruto to permit students to pursue their education regardless of whether or not they have paid for their tuition.
Ruto stated that the government has already made capitation payments and that it is “immoral” for administrators to keep berating parents and kids for not paying their tuition.
On Sunday, President William Ruto announced that he has information indicating that some heads of educational institutions have been using parental funds for tuition, completely defying a government order prohibiting such behavior.
The head of state claims that his administration has already provided funding to support education and questions why some school administrators continue to approach parents and guardians for financial assistance.
There are heads of institutions who are telling parents that the money from the government has not been released yet hence they have to pay because the school cannot run without any monies. Such leaders should stop conning parents as the government has released money for capitation to schools.
Ruto is in Busia for an interfaith prayer service in honor of Teso South MP Mary Emase. He threatens to take legal action against anyone found guilty.
He remarked, “I want to warn those managers in the education sector not to exploit parents by making up stories about how the government hasn’t released any money.”
“I want to clarify that 62 billion shillings has been released to our primary, secondary, TVET, and university institutions, including funds for bursaries,” the President said.
He pledged to launch an investigation into the allegations, find the truth, and stop the practice, which he claimed was impeding attempts to turn around the industry, which is a key driver of the nation’s economy.
The President said that he will prioritise education sector in order to bring equality among Kenyans.
