Headteacher Jailed For 18 Years After Caught Red-handed Defiling A Class 7 Girl
The middle aged primary school headteacher in Kisoro district in Uganda was sentenced to 18 years improvement for allegedly defiling a class seven pupil repeatedly in his office leaving her nursing several injuries.
According to court reporter Mr. Wilson Habiyakale, it was convicted after a successful prosecution following his arrest and subsequent arraignment in court, when he was formally charged with defiling a 14-year-old pupil in his office.
The report in the documents presented before the senior Principal Magistrate indicated that before entering the office, the alleged teacher was seen dressed in a nightgown before the incident. The forced the girl to have an affair with her without any protection.
The judge in his readings said the teacher will be charged with promoting a sexual offense, and allegedly showing the minor sinful act at his tender age.
Initially, the suspect had asked the court to release him on cash bail, but the Chief Magistrate denied his request citing that the offense was serious, and defilement cases have been mushrooming in the region.
The judge also said the man performed an indecent act with a child without protection and that is so risky to the life of the child.
The residents complaints that all due processes have been followed including filling all the forms required and obtaining an OB number, but no effort since the alleged officer has not yet been arrested.
“We are now tired of the games being played by our officers, they are the same people required to offer us and our children protection however they have turned against us since no action has been taken yet six months down the line,” they said.
The girl’s mother affirmed the incident, telling the police that she got a tip-off from of the teachers, who saw her daughter with the suspect entering the office with the suspect.
According to the victim’s mother, a friend asked the victim to accompany her to her (friend’s) uncle to collect some money, but the teacher took the girl to his office and defiled her, promising to pay the amount to buy bread in return.
The police officers in Kisoro location affirmed the incident saying the suspect allegedly eloped a primary School girl, take her to his office and defiled her repeatedly leaving her nursing injuries in private parts.
Prosecution also told court that in month of February, Habiyakale while at Chuho village in Kisoro District confined a victim through deception for a sexual exploitation.
While passing the sentence, Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi advised that the Habiyakale has a right of appeal against the conviction and the sentence within 14 days from the date of the judgment.
A teacher in society is a person of integrity and high moral standards. He or she is expected to be the mirror and role model to all people in the society. However, there are some teachers who abuse there roles and instead participate in spoiling the young children in society.
