The Higher Education Loans Board on Wednesday started the disbursement of tuition loans to Universities and TVETTVET Institutions
It will be disbursed to students as per their respective preferred payment channels

The Higher Education Loans Board on Wednesday started the disbursement of tuition loans to Universities and TVET Institutions.
In a statement, Helb CEO Charles Ringera said the upkeep loans for the more than 175,000 undergraduate and over 70,000 TVET continuing students under the Old Higher Education Funding Model are currently being disbursed.
It will be disbursed to students as per their respective preferred payment channels (Bank account or HELB Mobile Wallet].
“Higher Learning Institutions – Universities and Colleges are advised to allow students to register as tuition fees to various institutions have also been released and should be reflected in the respective bank accounts of the Higher Learning Institutions by October 5, 2023,” Ringera said.
This is per the extension granted by education CS Ezekiel Machogu on September 5, 2023. The deadline for application for loans and scholarships was extended as many students had difficulty applying in the first round.
He said the processing and disbursement of their Loans and Scholarships for both tuition and upkeep will follow shortly after the deadline date of October 7, 2023.
On the same note Higher Education Principal Secretary Dr Beatrice Inyangala warned universities Charging 7 per cent payment of fees before admission.
