IEBC Makes A Major Announcement Ahead Tomorrow’s Deadline.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has made a major announcement ahead of tomorrow application deadline.
IEBC has begun the process of verification of the voter register for the August 9 2022 general elections.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said in a gazette notice dated April 28th 2022 that the ongoing voter registration will be put on hold until March 13, 2023.
The procedure, and according to the IEBC Chairman will make the voter register available to the public for verification purposes.
This means that members of the public will have an opportunity to check whether or not their biometric data has been documented correctly in the register.
“The Commission notifies the public that this suspension is to enable availability of the register of voters to the public for purposes of verification of biometric data and particulars of registered voters in accordance with sections 6 A of the Elections Act, 2011,” IEBC said.
IEBC has noted that those who may have issues with their data can make a claim to the Registration Officer at any IEBC office across the country with a valid identity card or passport within the period.
The commission further added that exercise, despite the Election Act allowing Kenyans the right to register up to 60 days before the election date, will allow them enough time to meet critical deadlines and expedite the process effectively.
The end of the verification process will pave way for the gazetting of the final register to be used in the general elections.
