Kenya Certificate for primary education national examination and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment were concluded recently and marking of the two exams are ongoing.
KCPE marks have always been used in placing learners to secondary schools of different categories. For KPSEA, it was also expected that the results will be used in promoting learners to the next level.
However, Presidential review task force on Education Reform has recommended that the just concluded Grade 6 assessment will not be used for placement in Junior Secondary schools.
In the report, the stakeholders said the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will be used as a monitoring tool to monitor learning progress of the learners.
In a report the task force indicated that the assessment will be used as an assessment to monitor learning progress and provide feedback to education sector players on areas that require intervention.
The task force also wants junior secondary learners to be domiciled in existing primary schools.
In the report, the construction of laboratories has be given priority within the next year. Members of Parliament are asked to work towards providing support for the extra facilities.
