Kenya Rugby team famously known as Shujaa down Germany to Lift Safari Sevens Title
The Kenya Shujaa rugby sevens team breaks another record after winning the Safari Sevens title. The Shujaa won the title after beating Germany 12-5 in the final at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday 31st October 2021.
Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu’s men scored two tries converting once while Germany scored one unconverted try.
Early pressure forced Germany to commit a foul as Kenya got its first scrum but they were unable to execute the counterattack.
Kenya scored their first try through Alvin ‘Bufaa’ Otieno after a neat exchange with Timothy Mmasi allowed Otieno to run through and score with Levy Amunga converting the try.
The Germans pressed back and won a ruck with Jack Hunt running to the furthest right corner to score his side’s first try Niklas Koch missing the extras to make it 7-5 at halftime.
There was less action in the second half with Kenya’s Collins Shikoli and Germanys Max Roddick getting a sin bin.
Johnstone Olindi got a pass from captain Herman Humwa after a successful scrum Amunga missing the conversion to make it 12-5 at full time.
Defending Champions Kenya Morans finished third after defeating Red Wailers 12 – 5.
Elsewhere Kenya Lionesses won the ladies title after defeating Uganda Cranes 26-0.
