Kipsigis Girls High School Goes on Strike.
The students of Kipsigis Girls High School in Kericho County goes on strike demanding to speak to the Kericho TSC county commissioner.
The riot started today morning at around 3.30 am. The students reported that they are displeased with the move by TSC to transfer the long-serving school principal Juliana Kirui to Moi girls Eldoret. The students claimed that the new principal doesn’t match the former principal.
According to the report of one eyewitness, the students started screaming and the surrounding community rushed quickly to the school compound to see what was happening and help where necessary.
He continued to report that the students forced themselves out of the gate screaming the time when they were supposed to attend their morning preps classes.
He further said that the security officers manning the gate could not contain the students as they overpowered them.
The students did not destroy any property. What they only demanded is those in authority to listen to their grievances.
The teachers only duty quickly responded by calling Kericho county police officers to ensure the security of the students.
Speaking of why they decided to riote, the students demanded to speak with the county director of education and they sitted calmly on the ground waiting for the director.
Kipsigis girls for long has been performing exemplary well. In KCSE 2020, the school posted a mean score of 8.9 with over 255 students scoring a C+ and above.
Some Kericho county politicians who joined the rioting students against the new principal are on spot. These politicians to the matter to social media to condemn the new principal, Christine Chumba.
The said leaders have been warned to keep off from bringing politics to educational matters.
The student riot was held peaceful without the destruction of any property.
