KNEC Contracted professionals raise concern over unpaid arrears
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is yet to pay its contracted professionals who manned the last Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
The contracted professionals include Centre Managers (Principals/Head Teachers), Supervisors, Invigilators, Security Personnel and Examiners have raised concerns for the delayed payments.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) assigned 242,406 teachers to supervise, Invigilate and mark the national examinations.
Up to date the Kenya National Examinations Council has only paid advance to teachers who were involved in the marking of KCPE and KCSE exams.
The delay in payment of the knec contracted professionals has led to frustrations from teachers who supervised and invigilated the exams.
The main question for the teachers remains why Knec is taking time to pay them yet the KCPE and KCSE results were released long ago.
In response to the teachers’ grievances, treasury CAS Eric Wafukho has said that everything will be taken care of and therefore teachers who were contracted as professionals need not to panic.
“Teachers should not panic as everything will be taken care of”, Wafukho said in a statement.
According to Wafukho the government through the Treasury rolled out financing of the whole examination activities including paying teachers, drivers and security personnel and they expect that the process will be smooth.
However he added that all logistics must be followed before making the payments.
