KUPPET Teachers’ Strike Suspended
The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi has temporarily suspended KUPPET teachers’ Strike temporarily.
The labor court today postponed till September 5 the secondary school teachers’ strike, which was initiated on August 26 by the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) submitted an urgent plea on Monday, August 26, and the Labour Court issued the order on Tuesday, August 27.
When the court discusses the subject on September 5, Justice James Rika declared that the orders will not be changed.
“An order of temporary injunction is granted to the Petitioner, restraining the Respondent, its officials, members, employees, agents, or any other person acting on its behalf, from withdrawing labor and/or commencing, engaging in, participating, or continuing to participate in the proceedings while the Application inter partes is heard and decided.
The Respondent and the Interested Party will have seven days to file their corresponding reply after TSC is ordered by the court to serve them.
TSC filed a lawsuit after KUPPET-affiliated teachers in some parts of the nation went on a nationwide strike on Monday, claiming unsolved difficulties.
KUPPET remained unwavering, declaring that the union will carry on its strike until its demands are met by the government.
Even after the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) granted the government’s plea for extra time to meet the requests, the union persisted in calling for a strike.
