MoE: New University Fees Structure For Firsts Year Students
The Ministry of Education (MoE) is set to announce new university fees structure for first year students in the new funding model.
Parents and guardians will know how much they will pay for first year students starting August 19, 2024.
The new announcement comes after the July 19 decision by the Ministry of Education to nullify fees for KCSE 2023 student cohort that was to join universities in September.
Higher Education and Research PS Beatrice Inyangala further said that the government will only support learners who will have applied for funding.

She mentioned this while announcing that the ministry has extended the application deadline for 2023 KCSE students enrolling in universities for the 2024-25 academic year by ten days, to August 15, 2024.
“On June 18, 2024, the Ministry of Education opened the application portal for scholarships and loans for the 2023 KCSE cohort.” Since then, the process of applying for scholarships and loans has continued,” she explained.
Last month, the government stated that by the beginning of August 5, 2024, the individual universities would notify the new price structure.
According to a press release, as of August 4, 2024, 79,038 university students had applied for loans and scholarships, while 74,237 had still to apply for funding.
She emphasized the government’s commitment to provide quality and affordable education to students in universities as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions (TVETS).
Inyangala assured parents that their children’s placements in the relevant academic programmes were secure.

President William Ruto ordered that all universities post the price of their degree programs on the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) website starting in May 2023.
The President claimed that doing this will improve accountability and transparency and make it simpler for parents and students to select courses that suit them.
