Moi Suba Girls dormitory razed to the ground, 68 students hit.
A total of 68 students will spend the night in the cold when they return to the Moi Suba Girls in the town of Migori for their second term after a short holiday break.
Hell started on Sunday night and neighbors attempted to put out the fire using fire extinguishers and water to no avail, classrooms were razed to the ground.
School vice principal Oyier Milka said the fire broke out around 7pm. The next night she heard noises from people outside when she was in the office and she rushed to see the accident and was already consumed by the fire.
He said those who sounded the alarm were bricklayers who were constructing a nearby building and sounded the alarm which attracted the school’s neighbors who tried their best to put out the fire using fire extinguishers and even called the County firefighters who arrived late and could not rescue all of the students’ belongings that had been reduced to ashes.
Oyier said the affected students will have an alternate place to house them as most of those affected were in shape and two students who are still on vacation and are expected to show up at school by this evening as per the school schedule.
In the same memo, Suna West Sub County Commander Elizabeth Wakuloba said the incident occurred last night and that nothing was saved from the iron sheet-built dormitory.
She added that the police have initiated the investigation and will also speak with those who have seen hell so that they can get to the bottom of the matter.
