Money Is Available For Confirmation Of 46000 JSS Intern Teachers – Ndindi Nyoro
The Chair of National Assembly Budget and Appropriation Committee Ndindi Nyoro has assured the 46,000 JSS intern teachers that the money to convert them to permanent and pensionable terms is available.
Speaking during the home coming party for Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary (CS) Wycliffe Oparanya, Nyoro downplayed the fears that the money isn’t available after the 2024 Finance Bill failed to pass into law, urging the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to ensure that the teachers are confirmed and issued with PnP letters.
His statement comes barely few days after his National Treasury counterpart John Mbadi, in a local TV interview, stated that there is no money to confirm them.
The teachers have been on internship for two years, with the Employment and Labour Relations Court recently declaring internship as unconstitutional and ordering the TSC to immediately confirm them.

The absorption process of the intern teachers had delayed after the High court given a declaration on the Act saying it is illegal, something that left the government with no law to govern it’s revenue collection.
A total of 46,000 intern teachers currently on TSC payroll now move closer to their confirmation to permanent and pensionable (PNP) terms after Nyoro said that fund are available for their absorption in permanent and pensionable terms.
TSC earlier informed the parliament that it needs at least sh18.9 billion to confirm the serving intern teachers to permanent terms.
TSC boss further said that there is a plan to recruit more 18,000 junior and 2,000 primary school intern teachers in October this year.
One of reason for the planned nationwide strike for teachers is failure of the teachers service commission to confirm the JSS intern teachers into permanent and pensionable terms.
