410 ECDE teachers have been employed on a permanent basis and their salaries Increased. Governor announced the teachers were now on permanent and pensionable grade.
Speaking at county headquarters during presentation of employment letters to the teachers, Ms Waiguru said her government was committed to improving terms and conditions of work of ECDE teachers.
The governor said the least paid teacher will get 22,000 while the highest will get 49,000 monthly salary. The teachers earlier earned between Sh11,000 and Sh15,000.
Ms Waiguru nited that some people doubted her promise to give ECDE teachers permanent jobs. She said she has fulfilled her campaign promise to teachers.
Ms Waiguru said the new scheme of service will take effect immediately. She said the scheme will see teachers’ pay increase.
To implement the scheme, she said the county government has set aside 103 million for payment of salaries.
The county government will also pay for the teachers’ retirement benefits through the County Pension Fund.
Ms Waiguru said the move will not empower, facilitate Teacher’s personal growth and motivate them to offer the best services to learners across the county.
Over the past five years, she said, her administration has supported the 198 ECDE centres through improvement of infrastructure and distribution of learning and teaching materials.
Governor waiguru said there is an increase in number of children enrolled in ECDE centers compared to before as some parents who would previously enroll their children in private centres are now settling for public ones.
She encouraged the tutors to upgrade their academic qualifications since the new scheme has room for promotion.
