An examination malpractice case involving a 30-year-old private candidate taking her KCSE examinations at Nyanchwa Boys High School is being looked into by police in Nyanchwa, Kisii County.
An unnamed guy was observed by a KNEC examination official placing a password-protected mobile phone beside a classroom window next to the examination center on Tuesday when candidates were taking the Mathematics Paper 2, according to police.
The KNEC representative questioned the applicants to find out who owned the phone after they had completed the math exam.
According to reports, the private candidate gave up ownership of the phone.

KNEC officials found out after disclosing the password to the device that the math test the kids had just completed had been shared on four separate WhatsApp groups on the aforementioned phone before the test.
Since then, authorities have seized the cell phone and are questioning the private pupil.
Candidates taking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination should be aware that phony exam papers are being distributed on social media sites, according to a warning from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
The test papers being shared on social media platforms are not authentic, and their sole purpose is to trick KCSE candidates, according to KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere.
You may rest assured that no authentic paper can be shared on those social networking sites. Fake papers are all they have, Njegere claimed.
According to him, the Ministry of Education’s recently implemented instructions to prevent exam misconduct are effective, and the exam council is committed to conducting reliable results.
According to Njegere, there have only been 46 documented incidences of malpractice across the nation to date, but the low number does not compromise the validity of the test.
The CEO of KNEC reported that different strategies have been implemented to guarantee that schools in regions impacted by persistently high rainfall receive their exam papers on schedule.
Njegere has praised center administrators and security as the second week of the national exams runs smoothly.
