New Dates announced when schools will reopen for second term
Schools which were scheduled to reopen for second term on Monday will resume at later date after Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i declares Monday a public holiday.
Via a gazette notice interior CS has declared Monday the 11th of July a public holiday in honour of Idd- Ul-Adha.
“It is notified for general information that in the exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government declares Monday, 11th July 2022 a public holiday marking Idd-ul-Adha,” read part of the Gazette Notice.
Muslims world-wide observes Idd-ul-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice as a holiday that lasts for three to four days.
In this day, Muslims attend special prayers held in various mosques and Islamic centres marking the end of the Pilgrimage to Mecca where the Muslim faithful come together ahead of the official declaration.
The festival is usually announced depending on the moon sightings. This means that the date changes from time to time.
According to the Quran, Ibrahim was almost sacrificing his son Ishmael when a heavenly voice intervened and allowed him to make another sacrifice.
Instead of sacrificing his son, a ram was sacrificed in his stead according to the Old Testament.
During the Eid-ul-Adha, Muslims participate in charitable activities such as donating food and clothing those who are needy.
There were various reports on the internet that was false regarding when the celebration will happen. However, now it has been made clear with the government electing to announce Monday as a national holiday.
