New Revelation On The Announcement Of A 12% Salary Increment On Labour Day.
Sources said that not all workers will get the 12 per cent pay hike announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta during Labor Day yesterday.
President Uhuru Kenyatta announced a 12 percent increase in the minimum wage effective Sunday, May 1. The announcement drew the attention of many Kenyans, both employed and unemployed, to the good news amid tough times when the country’s economy is deteriorating.
Dedication to education was not far behind after the announcement of the good news. For example, a geography and business teacher left many Kenyans stitched off saying they were going to marry a second wife following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s announcement of a 12 percent pay rise.
However, sources said that the move was misinterpreted to mean that all Kenyans would receive a pay rise, while only a given department was to receive a pay rise.
The only workers who will receive a pay rise include cooks, gardeners, cleaners, housekeepers, janitors and messengers, according to a publication published Monday by Standard 2.
If this is the case, it means that these employees will get a salary increase of Ksh 1,629 from this month.
For example, a worker earning less than ksh 13,573 will get a salary of Rs 15,202 after a 12 per cent increase by the end of this month.
However the salary increase depends on the current working and living conditions of the workers.
