Parents are conned millions of money daily through the exposure of confidential details. Criminals access parents’ contacts and details of the learner from the visitors’ books.
The Standard Newspaper has revealed how the parents get conned through the visitors’ books in schools which is in most cases is found at the school gate.
Whenever parents and visitors go to a school, they do write their phone numbers in the visitors’ book by the gate and who they are going to visit. The conmen have tried to pretend to be part of the parents or guardians to access some parents’ contacts from this book or sometimes if they get an opportunity the disappear with the book.
Once the conmen get parents details, they communicate to them either through SMS or calls. Parents are always informed about a child lacking some items or being sent home for school fees. Others deliver good news to parents over tender awards and request them to send some amount to secure the mentioned tenders.
Many have fallen into such tricks and without esitating, they quickly send money to the conmen who claim to be part of the school employees.
This is quite rampant when schools are getting closed since the students are desperate for fare and at the beginning of the term for the case of tender tricks.
Schools are called upon to devise ways to keep parents’ contact details private snd confidential so that conmen cannot access them. Also, every school is urged to provide clear communication channels whenever the need arises.
Parents are also advised to contact the school administrators whenever they are called by strangers to confirm the authenticity of any information given to them by such people.
