TVET institutions. Technical and Vocational Education and Training, TVET institutions have been instructed to come up with their own examinations.
In an objective to align changes in advancement of knowledge and skills globally, it is paramount for technical and vocational education and training institutions to review the rules regurate management.
According to Dr. Lawrence Guantai, CEO of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Curriculum Development, Assessment, and Certification Council (TVET CDACC), TVETs must have a close link to industry.
Dr. Guantai acknowledged the Kenya National Examinations Council for upholding integrity in administration of national examinations in these institutions.
However, he advocated that a time has come when TVETTVET institutions should be allowed to set and conduct examinations.He also recommended institutions for taking the larger portion of the study time on the job training.
He further said that there is need to integrate work policy and strategy to ensure students to spend more time in industrial skills and knowledge.
Technical institutions are also required to upgrade their infrastructure in order to stay up with the demands of the learners and labor market.
Additionally, Dr. Guantai ordered tutors to commence the process of curriculum implementation starting next month. Harmonization of the training requirements in all colleges will guarantee that students across the borders are given skills transferable in real life and job market.
Over 300 TVETTVET heads met in Mombasa in a workshop to enlighten then in the rapid changes in jobs, technology and climate. They were also taken through leadership development and change adaptability.
The Education Ministry CS reported on Monday that enrolment in TVETTVET institutions has grown significantly from 92,000 in 2018 to 320,000 in 2023.
