Incidents of school fires have been very few in the past with the government, through the Ministry of Education urging students to desist from this behavior of burning schools.
The accidents that led to the destruction of millions of shillings of property have also led in some cases to the deaths of students in situations that could have been totally avoidable according to the relationship we have with us.
This morning, according to reliable reports we have with us, Nyakongo Boys High School in Nyamira is said to have been leveled in a fire last night.
The high school for men is one of the best performing schools in the county in the latest Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams held in the country.
Nyakongo Boys High School is an Ann County extra school of Nyamira County and is highly sought after by parents and students in the area.
The source of the fire that destroyed an entire dormitory last night is yet to be determined, but the fire went out in time and did not injure any students.
No deaths were reported from the incident that occurred last night in one of the institute’s dormitories.
However, the student property was totally destroyed in the fire, the source of which has not yet been ascertained by the police.
Authorities have called for caution and patience as they investigate the fire that destroyed the school dormitory last night.
