Security vehicles and barricades engulfed or surrounded the home of a Well known opposition leader on Wednesday last week following a ban on public rallies in Senegal from the authorities. A cordon of police in riot gear barred the way to the opposition Leader, Ousmane Sonko’s vehicle at the end of his street outside his home in the capital Dakar as shown in the footage broadcast live on social networks.
Security forces fired tear gas at reporters interviewing a member of parliament who had come to support Sonko, an AFP journalist reported.
Ousmane Sonko’s confinement comes amid growing tensions just one year before the presidential election are conducted, raising tension and fears of violence in a state that is commonly known for its stability.
