A section of parents at Koma Ranch Primary school have called upon the Ministry of Education to transfer the Head teacher and do an audit of the school.
Addressing the media yesterday after marching to the school, the parents said the Head teacher identified as Augustine Mawathe has been surcharging school fees and sending their children home over illegal levies. The parents lamented that unless the Head teacher is transferred, they will continue to suffer.
We want the Ministry of Education to intervene and transfer this teacher for she has been a pain in the neck. We are being overcharged you may think this is a boarding or a secondary school,” lamented a parent.
As a new parent, one is requested to pay Ksh.30,000 and pupils are asked to report with Ksh.30 daily for tuition despite being banned. If a pupil fails to pay they are punished or sent home. The same payments don’t have a receipt and this raises the question of whether the payments are in line with the Ministry’s directives,” added another.
They further accused the school head of failing to listen and even being rude to parents who come to the school to negotiate the payments.
I once had an issue and the school refused to listen to me. I went to the Ministry’s office in Kisukioni and reported the matter. When the school got wind of it my children were victimized and their books would not be marked. Upon asking, they were told to take the books to Kisukioni where their mother went to report the school,” narrated the parent.
The agitated parents noted that if the Ministry doesn’t take action soon, they will be forced to take out the teacher by themselves.
“She [the Head teacher] was chased by parents from the school she came from. Our school is not a dumping site for such people. We should be given a good Head teacher who doesn’t steal from us. This is the only public school around and we are suffering. This issue should be addressed as soon as possible,” suggested another parent.
Masomo News was able to talk on phone with the accused Head teacher who trashed the allegations leveled against her.
Ms Augustine said that the school had over 800 parents and only a few who were against development were staging such demos.
Those parents you have talked to are just a few of them who are against development. Also, we have never been rude to parents let alone pupils, said the Head teacher.
