Education ministry have been asked by Parents to provide a direct line to make reports on schools that will continue to charge extra fee, ‘motivation fees’.
The call from the parents comes after Dr. Julius Jwan the Principal Secretary, State Department for Early Learning and Basic Education warned that the government will take action against schools that will send students home over teacher motivation fees.
The field officers who do not report schools sending students home for motivation fee will be held accountable, PS said adding that the practice is unacceptable.
Some parents who registered their complaints over the same have accused most field officers of colluding with Headteacher or principals and board members to sent students home.
Otieno Tonny a resident from Kisumu County claimed that some parents’ representatives are unashamedly part of the ‘motivation fees’ scheme.
‘Last week I attended an opening day in one of the county schools in Kisumu county (extra county) and the administration in conjunction with the parents representatives were bold enough to tell us point blank that we will pay whether we like it or not,’ he claimed.
Another parent, said, ‘As long as the ministry doesn’t give an easy and reliable way parents can report the schools charging these monies, the rampant vice will continue to flourish.’
Esther Nangila chipped in saying that some learners have been denied clearance and their certificates withheld because of not paying motivation fees.
