Performing Schools Top The List In Awards GALA.
Great places to school initiative second edition gala were held in Nairobi at Sarova Hotel where performing schools topped the list in awards.
Top performing schools like Mpesa Foundation Academy, Crawford International school, Ndurumo high school, Millennium Global school, Juja Preparatory and Senior school, Brokeshine schools, Laiser Hill Academy and Greensteads International schools were the winning schools in different categories.
The categories that were being scrutinized by the judges were most improved school, STEM, Co-curricular activities, academic performance, Entrepreneurship, health and personal hygiene, security and safety measures, management, discipline and creativity.
Excellence school shined in the category of the most improved schools being followed closely by Oshwal Academy in Mombasa with Ruiga mixed secondary school coming third.
Trophies were awarded to each winning school. A total of one hundred and sixty-eight schools submitted their entries for all ten categories. Out of which only thirty schools were awarded.
Great places to school is an initiative that is sponsored by Standard Group in collaboration with Kenya Private Schools Association and Global Peace Foundation.
Other partners in the initiative are the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa and Opinion Track. The second edition awards gala event was supported by Moringa School and Safaricom.
Issues that are key in the education sector were discussed during the award gala ceremony. Among the issues that dominated the discussion was the recent school fires, one hundred per cent transition and strategies to improve the quality of education.
Julius Jwan the permanent secretary for basic education lauded the initiative for supporting quality education since 2019 when it was launched.
Other stakeholders said that with strong management and governance in the education sector school arson and other indiscipline cases can be solved easily.
