Police Arrest Six Telegram Admins Over Exam Malpractices.
Exam malpractices. Six Telegram group administrators have been detained by police on suspicion of involvement in the ongoing malpractices related to the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination.
A multi-agency operation was initiated by the police, involving all telecom service providers, CAK officers, and DCI personnel affiliated with the Kenya National Examinations Council.
In defiance of the KNEC Act and rules, the monitoring team for KNEC found that more than thirty-two social media sites were being used to distribute, market, and upload examination materials.
Thirty-two of the thirty active suspect Telegram platforms—of which over 193,000 parents and pupils were members—were flagged by Kenya’s Communications Authority in October.
Over 60,000 members of various groups departed when the first suspect, Mr. Examiner, was arrested, according to police, leaving a startling 130,000 people actively participating.

The suspect worked as a CRE instructor at a Kiambu County private school.
By November 4, according to the police, six more administrators had organized the fraud involving the sharing, selling, and uploading of exam materials in various Telegram channels.
DCI further stated that one of the most sought-after Telegram groups was run by the infamous suspect known as Professor.
With almost 18,000 followers, the organization was known as the Teacher’s Updates.
He urged the educators, parents, and students in his group to “calm down; we’re here to support you in every way.”
Two more Thika Medical School students, ages 19 and 20, were taken into custody by the police.
An additional 20-year-old administrator was also exposed when she went to a Safaricom store for customer service assistance following the suspension of the line she had used to create her Telegram account.
The six were charged with multiple offenses, including publishing false information, when they were arraigned on Monday.
“The DCI reminds youngsters holding on to the illusion that there exists a shortcut to riches and greatness, other than legitimate ventures, that such fraudulent practices are a sure way to a very small world within high walls.”
