Police officer arrested for throwing teargas at a political rally in kisii
A police officer is in police custody in Kisii for releasing a tear gas canister at Martha Maria during a rally that was held in kisii.
It is alleged that the said officer discharged the tear gas canster soon after Azimio running mate stood on the podium to address hundreds of Azimio supporters who had attended the rally.
He was arrested and is in custody helping with further investigation into the matter. He will assist the police officer to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The political rally at kisii ended in disarray as the multitude run for their lives after the tear gas canister blew up as soon as Martha Karua stood to address the gathering. Martha Karua was evacuated to a safe place by the police Officers.
Other politicians who had attended the rally had the opportunity to address the gathering but Ms Karua did not address the people as teargas canister blew up immediately after she stood to address the crowd. It is reported that the teargas canster exploded near the dais.
Several people were injured in the incident. However, there were women who were sitting closer to the dias who were affected the most as the canster blew up near the dias.
Allegations went round that police officer might have blown the teargas. The angry residents went for the officer and beat him up even as others were throwing stones at him.
Reliable sources indicate that the said officer was on off and had not been assigned any duty at the stadium.
