The Ministry of Education has assured that the form one placement will be fair.
The PS for Basic Education in the Ministry Dr. Belio Kipsang was reacting to growing concerns by private schools of preferential treatment.
He said they will be no discrimination in the selection exercise that will be completed on January 16, 2023.
All the candidates who received their results will be joining secondary schools next year.
Kipsang reiterated all the candidates will transition to form one pledging to ensure the pupils are admitted to secondary schools of their choice
“As we look forward to commencing the form one selection in Jan 2023. We want to assure all parents, guardians & learners that we shall be transparent, fair and we shall do the right thing for each child to get a school that they chose & deserve to be there” he stated.
The news is a relief to private schools that have called for fair distribution of secondary school slots for their pupils.
Kenya Private Schools Association’s national vice chairman Solomon Munene midweek said the process should be pegged on pupils’ performance.
“Let us reward hard work and let all candidates be able to access the secondary schools of their choice as per their performance. All candidates are Kenyan children and it is our believe that the Form 1 selection will be fair to all. Private schools are keenly watching,” he said.
The PS who was accompanied by KNEC CEO, Dr. Njeng’ere was speaking Friday morning at Langata, Nairobi County when he witnessed the distribution of the last KCSE 2022 exam materials.
At the same time, he promised that the marking process will be fair.
We are committed to ensure whatever marks our children get is exactly what is extracted from the answer sheet. Our examiners will work with diligence to ensure our children get what they deserve as they have done their part to give their best.
He urged parents to support and appreciate learners who are abled differently.
“ Our children are not limited and each one of them has potential. They only need support from us and we need to play our role in nurturing them within the family level and through education.”
He thanked the multi-agency team that has been coordinating the exams for their diligence throughout the period.
He added, “Our teachers who prepared the children for the exams in the best way possible during the shortest academic calendar are well invested”.
