Red eye outbreak symptoms and how to stop infection
Mombasa County has had over a thousand cases of conjunctivitis, commonly referred to as “the red eye infection,” which prompted the county health authorities to warn locals.
Eye pain, swelling, itching, redness, and discharge are some of the signs of an infection that can affect one or both eyes and is brought on by viruses, bacteria, allergies, or irritants.
Abdallah Deleno, the Mombasa County Health Officer, has recently expressed worries about the possibility of a rise in the number of cases.
He continued by saying that the majority of those afflicted are young people in school, whom he has advised to follow hygiene precautions to prevent the sickness from spreading to neighboring coastal counties.

“Yes we have Eye outbreak which is viral in nature caused by adeno virus which is common infection disease that has affected alot of our young kids and adults and the numbers are significant,” Deleno stated to Citizen TV.

Mombasa people want the county to take notice of public facilities in order to avert a disaster, even if they have been assured there is no need for concern.
“I know someone who has been affected by the illness. “Once one person gets infected, it’s frightening how quickly the disease spreads,” Mombasa resident Dickson Kibagendi said.
Health officials have also sent out a notification to the people of neighboring Kilifi County, asking them to wash their hands with soap and water.
In addition, they have asked residents to refrain from touching or rubbing their eyes, to share personal objects with others, and to temporarily stop wearing contact lenses until a doctor of optometry has given the all-clear.
CEC for Kilifi Health Nonetheless, Peter Mwarogo has emphasized that there is no need for concern because the county has already had instances of red eye infections.
The outbreak, which was initially discovered in Tanzania in December, appears to be rapidly expanding to neighboring coastal regions.
In the past three weeks, Tanzania has seen an increase in cases—more than 800 cases in Dar es Salaam.
