Fafi Member of Parliament Salah Yakub has offered to buy full uniforms, mattresses, books and other essential commodities as students report back to school following economic hardships that have affected area residents.
The MP directed all headteachers not to ask for school fees from any student as CDF kitty will cater for the full cost.
Yakubu who spoke at Fafi Girls’ Secondary School during the launch of Zero fees program said Kshs. 40 million is being invested in the education sector with Kshs. 30 million earmarked for local schools.
The remaining funds he noted will be given to tertiary institutions and students studying outside the constituency.
He said the Zero fees program is aimed at ensuring 100 percent transition as well as relieving parents from the burden of paying fees.
“As parents, yours is to take your child to school. Don’t even buy soap because CDF will cater for them, this is what we promised during our election campaign,” he told the gathering at Bura Sub-County.
Last week, the MP asked the security agencies to ensure that security is provided in all learning centers to deter any attack and commended Chiefs and their assistants for encouraging large number of pupils to enroll in all primary schools in the constituency.
He said security agencies will be provided with logistical support including four-wheel drives and motor bikes for easy mobility and to ensure services move closer to the residents.
Nanigi Ward Representative Abdullah Sigat took issue with Teachers Service Commission for employing non-locals in the area before seeking transfers citing insecurity.
“We are telling TSC this is not an employment bureau where when you get employed you seek transfer. Does it mean that you never knew there is insecurity before,” he asked.
Bura East sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Tomas Bett urged parents to take advantage of the program by taking their children to school.
