Relief To Youths Seeking For Employment Following Latest Legislators Announcement
Hundreds of thousands of youths seeking jobs have a reason to smile following the latest announcement from legislators.
The legislators have announced the newly enacted bill prohibiting the requirements that all those seeking jobs in the country should provide clearance certificates when seeking employment.
Yesterday 10th November nominated MP Gideon Keter issued a statement which states that the law was passed without any objections.
According to the statement, Members of Parliament overwhelmingly supported the employment amendment bill without objection. Keter states that job seekers are overburdened with the ongoing background checks to be interviewed for any job.
A sigh of relief to job seekers has now come given that from henceforth those seeking jobs will not be required during applications. This document will be required when the offer of employment is assured. Keter narrated.
In reinforcement of his case, Hon Keter further pointed out that in the United States some jurisdictions require the companies to bear the burden of checking the background of the newly employed workers. After the amendment, the employer will not be required to subject job seekers to prove that they are not wrongdoers or have never committed a crime.
His argument was based on the expenses incurred by youths seeking jobs when processing the DCI clearance certificate, the Ethics and Corruption Commission (EACC) clearance, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) certification, the Higher Loans Board (HELB) clearance, and the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) clearance.
According to Hon Keter, the expenses can sum to more than 6,000 shillings while one is not assured of getting after all the expenses. Also, Hon Keter noted that some clearance certificates are only valid for a short period.
Reports have indicated that the government earns a whopping Ksh750 million every year from job seekers from processing the clearance certificates.
