Schools That Are Unlikely To Reopen Despite Ruto’s Directive
Several schools in the Country are unlikely to reopen on Monday despite Ruto’s directive as they remain submerged in floods.
Some institutions are stlii submerged in floods while others are grappling with damaged classrooms, toilets and other facilities.
In some areas, hundreds of families displaced by floods have sought refuge in classrooms and in school compounds.
Parents who have seen that the institutions where their daughters and sons are learning are likely not to reopen have said the learners risk being disadvantaged.
In Nyanza, Mount Kenya, Western, Rift Valley, Coast and Nairobi regions a spot check indicates that significant number of schools are in a devastating state.
Schools That Are Unlikely To Reopen Despite Ruto’s Directive
At least 40 schools in Nyanza region in counties of Kisumu, Migori and Homa Bay are either inaccessible, submerged or acting as rescue centres for displaced families.
For instance, the entire compound in Oseth Primary School in Nyando is submerged including the surrounding and is only accessible through a boat.
Similarly, Ombaka primary school is acting as a rescue centre, with its classrooms now homes of several families displaced from the nearby Ombaka village.

Others schools in the region that are affected include Ahero girls, Kolunga, Kowala and Oseth primary schools.
