A secondary school teacher in Rachuonyo East, county of Homa Bay is nursing a gunshot wound after being shot by a thug.
The teacher who has been identified as Mr. Elijah Opiyo, teaches at Gott Latin Secondary School.
According to his brother Collins Oyaya, teacher Opiyo was shot at around 8:00 pm shortly after closing the mobile money transfer kiosk at the Kadongo Commercial Center.
“One of the three men had a gun, but the other two had crude weapons. He was ordered by the Thugs to give out everything he had,” Oyaya said.
According to the brother, the thugs ordered the shocked Opiyo to hand over the wallet he was carrying.
The bag he had contained money of his daily collection from his small shop.
“My brother complied and handed them the bag and one of the thugs shot him twice in his right leg,” his brother said.
“The three jumped on the waiting bikes and ran off in a fuss and left my brother while injured ” he added.
The teacher was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga, Kisumu After being transferred from Okita Nursing Home. He is now at Jaramogi Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he is hospitalized.
Rachuonyo East Deputy County Commissioner Job Kemei said his officers were investigating the incident.
