Poverty is blamed for high pregnancy cases in Kilifi as several primary school girls allegedly sell their bodies to get as little as sh 50.
It has been reported that the primary schoolgirls accept as little as Sh 50 to engage in sexual activities to meet some of the basic necessities in life.
Alarm has been raised in Magarini in Kilifi after nine girls from one primary school were reportedly impregnated last month.
According to the report which was provided, some of the girls were impregnated by their fellow students while others by villagers.
The high level of poverty in Magarini forces the girls to accept gifts and small amounts of money before going to bed with men. Such take advantage of the needy girls, lure them with small gifts for sexual activities. Report has it that they impregnat the girls they go missing.
A Mji wa Kale Carisa Charo village elder infomerd the media that parents are to blame for the troubles girls are facing at tender age.
While reporting, he noted that parents have failed to provide the basic needs to their daughters, leading to the teens engaging in adults’ affairs as a way of getting the basics
The research report which was released on October 2021 revealed that a whopping number of teenagers drop out of school yearly.
According to the report, about 1.13 million children have been reported to have dropped out of school across the country.
The survey was conducted by the education ministry (MOE) in conjunction with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The details of the report revealed that majority of the school dropouts are either in the streets, working in the farm plantations where they are exploited, are nursing babies, or have been forced into early marriages.
The report further revealed that many children are out of school due to early pregnancies, child marriages, and child labor.
