Several schools have been closed earlier due to insecurity ahead of festive holidays.
According to the ministry of education’s term two calendar schools were scheduled to close for the holiday on 23rd December, two days before Christmas for a short break before resuming for the third term on 3rd of January 2022.
However, due to pressure and other unavoidable circumstances, some schools have defied the directives from the ministry of education to close earlier than expected.
This comes after the majority of schools in Baringo have closed due to incidents of insecurity. The heads of schools say learning can’t go on as they have experienced attacks from bandits who are fighting over the control of resources in the region.
The residents of Baringo have taken refugee at Chepkesin Primary forcing the head to close the school early.
Another school in Busia county Butula sub-county called Bukhuyi Mixed school was closed indefinitely after students attempted to burn down the schools.
Most of the schools countrywide will be closing by the end of this week to ease pressure among the learners.
Despite the challenges, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has maintained that the national examination will take place as scheduled.
