A boy’s school in Narok County, Ololulunga Boys’ Secondary School, has been closed indefinitely on following a walkout by more than 1,000 students at night.
According to Felix Kisalu, the area Deputy County Commissioner, the students walked out of the school at 10 pm in protest.
Deputy County Commissioner added that the boys did not destroy any property in the school as they walked out during the protest noting that the school administration was yet to determine the reason for the match out.
Moreover, Felix Kisalu explained that the boys who walked out of the school first barred the other group of around 300 boys from walking outside the gate.
The Deputy County commissioner stated that the cause for the protest is yet to be determined because the boys walked out silently without speaking to any stranger. He said a security team was sent to the school to see if there was any kind of damage, but there was no damage done.
Attempts by the county commissioner to return the students back to school were unsuccessful.
However, the officials noted that the 300 students left behind would help the school in conducting further investigations on the matter.
School board of management will meet to discuss the issue so as to find a solution to the issue before calling back the boys to schools.
Kisalu further revealed that the school had a series of incidents of students striking which has caused the school’s performance to drop.
In the recent past, cases of students and parents demonstratin over low grades have increased in the country. Parents and students from a section of schools in the Nyanza region who protested recently and turned away new principals.
Besides registering low performances, the schools in question from Nyanza region were experiencing decline in number of students due to the new administrators and lagging behind with substandard infrastructure.
