48 students Sunday escaped death narrowly in a road accident in the outskirts of Kitui town.
The learners from both St.Augustine Kanyangi Boys and St.Bridgit Syomunyu Girls sustained injuries in the early morning accident that occurred at Majengo estate village, near Kalundu river.
The driver of the school bus who was ferrying the students from both schools in Kitui Rural Constituency to St.Ursula Girls Secondary school in Tungutu, Kyangwithya west in Kitui Central Constituency, lost control when he tried to avoid hitting a rider.
According to Mark Ndete who is the village administrator in Majengo, the students survived the crash.
“There was a motorbike that was speeding as it approached the school bus from the opposite direction, prompting the driver to swerve off the road to avoid hitting the rider. Unfortunately, he swerved off the road, lost control and overturned,” said the area village administrator.
The students were headed to St.Ursula Girls for a Students Council meeting organized by the Catholic church.
The injured were rushed to the County referral hospital where they are receiving medical attention.
The incident comes barely a month after St.Bridgit Syomunyu Girls Secondary school bus was also involved in an accident when schools opened.
