Teacher imprisoned for possessing photos of teanagers
After gathering thousands of lewd photos of kids on Snapchat, a teacher was revealed to be a paedophile. A category B photograph was published to Snapchat teacher December of last year, leading to the arrest of Antony Phillips, who admitted to police that he was “addicted” to the disgusting images.
Last Monday, the Court was informed that the 32-year-old football coach’s IP address may be used to link him to the image. According to the Liverpool Echo, police searched his home and arrested Phillips while taking two laptops and a cellphone.
Both computers had pornographic photos of children, including 784 that were under category A, which represents the most severe types of abuse. 3,801 photos in category C and 1,052 in category B were also present. Apparently, “teenage boys of school age” were depicted in the majority of the images.
Ben Berkson, the prosecutor, informed the court that Phillips’ internet history contained “concerning search terms which indicated a predilection for young teenage boys,” including one for “changing room boys.”
Up until January of this year, the beast had been a teacher at Calday Grange Grammar School in West Kirby, Wirral, for more than seven years. Since at least 2018, he had been amassing the offensive photographs, even purchasing them online. Besides having teaching expertise, he was a football coach.
In an interview, he admitted to being “addicted to accessing this material” and made “full and frank admissions” about his addiction.
As he could “draw a veil” in a professional setting, he denied “having a sexual interest in the boys he taught and coached,” but he did “accept sexual arousal from accessing and viewing images of children.”
The defendant, whose defense was led by Jim Smith, admitted to the court that he “would always remain sorry for his actions and accepts he betrayed the faith and trust bestowed upon him by the school and students.” Additionally, Phillips was stated to have “made positive changes in his life” and sought help from a psychotherapist.
Judge Garrett Byrne sentenced the offender to a nine-month sentence with a two-year suspension of his sentence for producing and possessing obscene photos of youngsters as well as for possessing them.
Phillips will be required to undergo the Horizon sex offender treatment program, work 60 hours of unpaid labor, and finish a rehabilitation activity requirement that may last up to 15 days. He was had to sign the sex offenders register as well.
