Teaching Paralyzed in Bondo TTC after the staff downed their tools over unpaid salaries. Operations were brought to a stand still at Bondo Teachers Training College after non-teaching staff downed their toolsdowned their tools over the unpaid salaries accrued from 2019.
The non-teaching staff have resorted to being on a go slow which has affected virtually all the departments including the kitchen, security, laboratory, nursing, grounds, cleaners, ICT and drivers among others.
Led by their shop steward John Odero, the workers lamented that they are currently suffering and unable to make ends meet adding that as things stand now, majority cannot put food on the table, pay rent or pay for their children’s school fees.
He lamented that the college administration has also not been remitting their statutory monthly deductions like National Hospital Insurance Fund and the National Social Security Fund for the three years thus putting them in a very awkward situation because they cannot even access proper medication.
Mr. Odero noted that the demonstration will be peaceful as they await for the college administration to address their concerns.
The non teaching staff complained that despite not being paid, they have been working under very strict supervision and would be told nothing tangible whenever they raise the issue of their salaries and general welfare.
He lamented that the College Principal Mrs. Susan Ligeze has been threatening them and even daring them to seek unpaid leave if they think they are tired of working for the institution.
Attempts to reach the Principal on her phone went unanswered and declined to respond to our messages seeking clarification in regard to the raised issues.
